BIRTHDAYS PLUS EINSTEIN ET AL AUGUST 21, 2023 PATRICK DEMARCHELIER, ROBERT STONE, SAINT FRANCIS DE SALES,

AND THOSE WHO WERE SEEN DANCING WERE THOUGHT TO BE INSANE BY THOSE WHO COULD NOT HEAR THE MUSIC. NIETZSCHE

OUR JOURNEY is about being more deeply involved in life and yet less attached to it.                          RAM DASS

ALBERT EINSTEIN. VIA NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON

I AM HAPPY because I want nothing from anyone. I do not care about money. Decorations, titles or distinctions mean nothing to me. I do not crave praise. I claim credit for nothing. A happy man is too satisfied with the present to dwell too much on the future.

TIME DOES NOT EXIST — WE INVENTED IT. TIME IS WHAT THE CLOCK SAYS. THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN THE PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE IS ONLY A STUBBORNLY PERSISTENT ILLUSION.

I didn’t arrive at my understanding of the fundamental laws of the universe through my rational mind.

CONCERNING MATTER, we have been all wrong. What we have called matter is energy, whose vibration has been so lowered as to be perceptible to the senses. Matter is spirit reduced to the point of visibility. there is no matter.

TIME AND SPACE are not conditions in which we live, but modes by which we think.

I THINK 99 times and find nothing. I stop thinking, swim in silence, and the truth comes to me.

THE INTELLECT has little to do on the road to discovery. There comes a leap in consciousness, call it intuition or what you will, the solution comes to you and you don’t know how and why.

A HUMAN BEING experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

OUR SEPARATION FROM EACH OTHER IS AN OPTICAL ILLUSION.

WHEN SOMETHING VIBRATES, the electrons of the entire universe resonate with it. Everything is connected. The greatest tragedy of human existence is the illusion of separatedness.

WE ARE souls dressed up in sacred biochemical garments and our bodies are the instruments through which our souls play their music.

THE TRUE VALUE of a human being can be found in the degree to which he has attained liberation from the self.

EVERYTHING IS DETERMINED, every beginning and ending, by forces over which we have no control. It is determined for the insect, as well as for the star. Human beings, vegetables, or cosmic dust, we all dance to a mysterious tune, intoned in the distance by an invisible piper.

THE RELIGION OF THE FUTURE will be a cosmic religion. It will transcend a personal god and avoid dogma and theology.

EVERYTHING is energy and that is all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you can not help but get the reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.

J.R.R. TOLKIEN —IF MORE OF US valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold. It would be a merrier world.

DENIS DIDEROT—WE SWALLOW greedily any lie that flatters us, but we sip only little by little at a truth we find bitter.

PATRICK DEMARCHELIER.      1943————PHOTOGRAPHER.

I LOVE ALL WOMEN. WOMEN are sublime beings. I love all of it: their eyes, their noses, their bodies.

WHEN YOU ARE A PHOTOGRAPHER, you work all the time, because your eye is the first camera.

PHOTOGRAPY is like a moment, an instant. you need a half-second to get the photo. So it’s good to capture people when they are themselves.

WHEN YOU’RE A FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER, YOU MUS INSPIRE A DREAM.

I LOVE MY DOG. ACTUALLY, THE BEST PORTRAIT I DID WAS OF MY DOG.

ROBERT STONE   1937-2015.        NOVELIST.       “DOG SOLDIERS
IF YOUR HAVEN’T FOUGHT for your life for something you want, you don’t know what’s lffe is all about.

IT’S ALL ABOUT LETTING THE STORY TAKE OVER.

I WRITE a very rough draft of every chapter, then I rewrite every chapter. I try to get it down the first rewrite, but some chapters I can’t get quite right the third time. There are some I go over and over again.

ONE DOES NOT CONSIDER STYLE, BECAUSE STYLE IS.

WHAT IS WORST about America was acted out. What is best in America doesn’t export.

THE LESSONS I LEARNED that were most important were the ones that hurt my feelings.

THE DESIRES OF THE HEART . . . ARE AS CROOKED AS A CORKSCREW.

I TRY very hard to be fair, and I look for ironies. In a way, I live on ironies as a novelist.

IT’S EASY to create a country, all you have to do is to think of a name for it.

YOU SHOULD LET DIALOGUE get as nearly out of control as you can. Characters should say what they say to each other instead of what they mean to say. The worst purpose of dialogue is to elicit information: “You know why we’re out on this space station, Carruthers — to save the universe!”

SAINT FRANCIS de SALES  1567-1622         BISHOP OF GENEVA

WHAT WE NEED is a cup of understanding, a barrel of love, and an ocean of patience.

HAVE PATIENCE WITH ALL THINGS — but first with yourself. Never confuse your mistakes with your value as a human being. You are perfectly valuable, creative, worthwhile person simply because you exist. And no amount of triumphs or tribulations can ever change that.

ANXIETY is the greatest evil that can befall a soul, except sin. God commands you to pray, but he forbids you to worry.

GREAT OCCASIONS for serving God come seldom, but little ones surround us.

DO EVERYTHING CALMLY AND PEACEFULLY. Do as much as you can as well as you can.

FAITH is like a bright ray of sun light. It enables us to see God in all things as well as all things in God.

DON’T GET UPSET WITH YOUR IMPERFECTIONS.

BE WHO YOUR ARE AND BE THAT WELL.

MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE ANGELS, who though invisible are always with you. Often invoke them, constantly praise them and make good use of their help and assistance in all your temporal and spiritual affairs.

NOTHING is so strong as gentleness, nothing so gentle as real strength.

DO NOT LOSE COURAGE in considering your own imperfections.

JULES MICHELET     1798-1874.           HISTORIAN                                 “The People” “A Study of Mind and Sensibility” “La Sorciere”

YOU ARE ONE OF THE FORCES OF NATURE.

WOMEN are perfectly well aware that the more they seem to obey the more they rule.

HE WHO KNOWS HOW TO BE POOR KNOWS EVERYTHING.

                      EVERY EPOCH DREAMS ITS SUCCESSOR.

                                               LOVE SMILES

THE WAY TO GAIN A FRIEND IS TO BE ONE.

WOE BE TO HIM who tries to isolate one department of knowledge from the rest. All science is one: language and history, physics, mathematics and philosophy; subjects which seem the most remote from one another are in reality connected, or rather they all form a single system.

OUR ESTEEM IS APT TO BE GIVEN WHERE WE KNOW THE LEAST.

GREAT HEARTS alone understand how much glory there is in being good.

IF YOU WISH TO RUIN YOURSELF, MARRY A RICH WIFE.

LOVE is strong in its passion; affection is powerful in its gentleness.

AT ITS STARTING POINT IN INDIA, the birthplace of races and religions, the womb of the world.

ANIMAL LIFE, sombre mystery. All nature protests against the barbarity of man, who misapprehends, who humiliates, who tortures his inferior brethren.

FEAR accomplishes much in love. The husband of the Middle Ages was loved by his wife for his very severity. The bride of William the Conqueror, having been beaten by him, recognized him by this token for her lord and husband.

THE INDIFFERENCE of men, far more than their tyranny, is the torment of women.

WOMAN’S HAPPINESS CONSISTS IN OBEYING; SHE OBJECTS TO A MAN WHO YIELDS TOO MUCH.

WOMAN IS THE SUNDAY OF MAN: not his repose only, but his joy; the salt of his life.

WHAT MANLY ELOQUENCE COULD PRODUCE SUCH AN EFFECT AS WOMAN’S SILENCE?
