BIRTHDAYS PLUS OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES SR., RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH, JOHM LOCKE AUGUST 28, 2023 PLUS ZADIE SMITH & HJAZRAT KHAN.

ZADIE SMITH. —  PUBLISHED “On Beauty” her masterpiece to my mind—a wise, sad and hilarious book about American race relations that would have justly been called a great American social novel had the American literary scene at that time been more attuned to race as a theme.         KARAN MAHAJAN N.Y. PASSION is the smoke and emotion is the glow of love’s fire; unselfishness is the flame that illuminates the path. HAZRAT KHAN

JOHN LOCKE.  1632- 1704  “The Father of Liberalism”.

THE MOST PRECIOUS of all possessions is power over ourselves.

I have no reason to suppose that he, who would take away my liberty, would not when he had me in his power, take away everything else.

                        WHAT WORRIES YOU, MASTERS YOU.

WHO LIES FOR YOU WILL LIE AGAINST YOU.

DON’T let the things you don’t have prevent you from  using what you do have.

                    WHEREVER LAW ENDS, TYRANNY BEGINS.

LIBERTY IS TO BE FREE FROM RESTRAINT AND VIOLENCE.

MEN’S HAPPINESS OR MISERY is for the most part of their own making.

KNOWLEDGE IS GRATEFUL TO THE UNDERSTANDING, AS LIGHT TO THE EYES.

WITH BOOKS WE STAND ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS.

LOGIC IS THE ANATOMY OF THOUGHT.

I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT the actions of men the best interpreters of their thoughts.

CONSCIOUSNESS is the perception of what passes in man’s own mind.

FIRMNESS OR STIFFNESS of the mind is not from adherence to truth, but submission to prejudice.

WHERE THYERE IS NO LAW THERE IS NO FREEDOM.

READING furnishes the mind only with materials of knowledge; it is thinking that makes what we read ours.

RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH. 1923- 2014   FILM  MAKER “GANDHI”

I THINK TOM PAINE is one of the greatest men that’s ever lived. He lived in the 18th century; as you all know, he was an Englishman who was involved in the writing of the American Declaration of Independence, the American Constitution, the French Constitution, wrote the great book called “The Rights of Man”.

ART IS NOT AN ELITIST GIFT FOR A FEW SELECT PEOPLE. ART IS FOR EVERYONE.

WHEN ASKED what attribute he most admired in human nature, Mahatma Gandhi replied, simp[ly and immediately, “Courage”, he said, “is not to be used as the shield of the coward. It is the weapon of the brave.”

I JUST LOVE BIOGRAPHY, AND I’m fascinated by people who have shifted our destinies or our points of view.

I WANT TO BE REMEMBERED AS A STORYTELLER.

I AM PASSIONATELY OPPOSED to capital punishment, and I have been all my life. I think it is obscene that we should believe that we are entitled to end somebody’s life, no matter hat the person has supposedly done or not done.

WHAT I am sad about is that there is now, no equivalent to the art circuit.

OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES, SR. 1809-1894.  “Breakfast Table”.

LOVE IS THE MASTER KEY THAT OPENS THE GATES OF HAPPINESS.

HAVE THE COURAGE TO ACT INSTEAD OF REACT.

BEWARE how you take away hope from any human being.

TRUTH, WHEN NOT SOUGHT AFTER, RARELY COMES TO LIGHT.

SPEAK CLEARLY, if you speak at all; carve every word before you let it fall.

WE are all tattooed in our cradles with the beliefs of our tribe; the record may seem superficial, but it is indelible. You cannot educate a man wholly out of the superstitious fears which were early implanted in his imagination; no matter how utterly his reason may reject them . . .

                                    DONT THINK; INTUIT
