JOSEPH CONRAD, ANNA FREUD–BIRTHDAYS–DEC.3, 2023–PLUS–WAYNE DYER, ALBERT EINSTEIN, FRANCIS COPPOLA.

NEVER TRUST A MAN WHO HAS THREE NAMES. FRANCIS COPPOLA

WE are slowed down sound & light waves, a walking bundle of frequencies tuned into the music of the cosmos, we are souls dressed up in sacred biochemical garments, & our bodies are the instruments through which our souls play their music.  ALBERT EINSTEIN

SELF-WORTH COMES FROM ONE THING — THINKING THAT YOU ARE WORTHY.   WAYNE DYER

JOSEPH CONRAD 1857-1924—“LORD JIM” “HEART OF DARKNESS”.  “THE SECRET AGENT” “NOSTROMO”.

A WRITING may be lost; a lie may be written; but what the eye has seen is truth & remains in the mind.

WE LIVE AS WE DREAM — ALONE. While we dream disappears — the life continues painfully.

YOU SHALL judge a man by his foes as well as by his friends.

FOLLOW YOUR BLISS. FIND WHERE IT IS & DON’T BE AFRAID TO FOLLOW IT.

ALL ROADS ARE LONG WHICH LEAD TO ONE’S HEART’S DESIRE.

HAPPINESS, HAPPINESS . . . the flavor is with you — with you alone & you can make it as intoxicating as you please.

IMAGINATION, NOT INVENTION, IS THE SUPREME MASTER OF ART AS OF LIFE.

          PERHAPS LIFE IS JUST THAT . . . A DREAM & A FEAR.

YOU MUST SQUEEZE OUT OF YOURSELF EVERY SENSATION, every thought, every image — mercilessly, without reserve & without remorse: you must search the darkest corners of your heart, the remote recesses of your brain, you must search them for the image, for the glamour, for the right expression. And you must do it sincerely, at any cost: you must do it so that at the end of your day’s work you should feel exhausted, emptied of every sensation & every thought, with a blank mind & an aching heart with the notion that there is nothing — nothing left in you.

ART IS LONG & LIFE IS SHORT & SUCCESS IS VERY FAR OFF.

GOSSIP IS WHAT NO ONE CLAIMS TO LIKE BUT EVERYBODY ENJOYS.

THERE IS SOMETHING HAUNTING in the light of the moon; it has all the dispassionateness of a disembodied soul & something of its inconceivable mystery.

IT IS THE MARK of an inexperienced man not to believe in luck.

MY TASK which I am trying to achieve is by the power of the written word to make you hear, to make you feel — it is before all to make you see.

THE DISCOVERY OF AMERICA  was the occasion of the greatest outburst of cruelty & reckless greed known in history.

I LIKE WHAT IS IN THE WORK — THE CHANCE TO FIND YOURSELF.

REALITY BEATS FICTION OUT OF SIGHT.

THE human heart is vast enough to contain all the world.

ONE MUST explore deep & believe the incredible to find the new particles of truth floating in an ocean of insignificance.

IT’S EXTRAORDINARY how we go through life with eyes half shut, with dull ears, with dormant thoughts. Perhaps it’s just as well; & it may be that it is this very dullness that makes life to the incalculable majority so supportable & so welcome.

JOY AND SORROW in this world pass into each other, mingling their forms & their murmurs in the twilight of life as mysterious as an overshadowed ocean, while the dazzling brightness of supreme hopes lies far off, fascinating & still, on the distant edge of the horizon.

HE who wants to persuade should put his trust not in the right argument but in the right word. The power of sound has always been greater than the power of sense.

MADNESS ALONE is truly terrifying, inasmuch as you cannot placate it by threats, persuasion or bribes.

PROTECTION IS THE FIRST NECESSITY OF OPULENCE & LUXURY.

KISSES ARE THE REMAINS OF PARADISE.

WE LIVE AS WE DREAM — ALONE.

GIVE ME THE RIGHT WORD & THE RIGHT accent & I will move the world.

WORDS, AS IS WELL KNOWN, ARE THE GREAT FOES OF REALITY.

IN ORDER TO MOVE OTHERS DEEPLY we must deliberately allow ourselves to be carried away beyond the bounds of our normal sensibility.

THE QUESTION IS NOT HOW TO GET CURED — BUT HOW TO LIVE.

WE CAN NEVER CEASE TO BE OURSELVES.

I HAVE WRESTLED WITH DEATH. It is the most unexciting contest you can imagine.

FEW MEN REALIZE that their life, the very essence of their character, their capabilities & their audacities, are only the expression of their belief in the safety of their surroundings.

FOR RUSSIA CONRAD predicted a violent outburst in the near future — but Russia’s lack of democratic traditions & the backwardness of her masses made it impossible for the revolution to have a salutary effect.

I LOOK as the future from the depth of a very black past & I find that nothing is left for me except fidelity to a cause lost, to an idea without a future.

ANNA FREUD 1895-1982–“The Ego & the Mechanisms of Defense”

CREATIVE MINDS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN KNOWN TO SURVIVE ANY KIND OF BAD TRAINING.

I WAS ALWAYS LOOKING outside myself for strength & confidence but it comes from within. It is there all the time.

IF some longing goes unmet, don’t be astonished. We call that life.

SEX IS SOMETHING YOU DO. SEXUALITY IS SOMETHING YOU ARE.

WHY DO WE GO AROUND ACTING as though everything was friendship &n reliability the basically everything everywhere is full of sudden hate & ugliness?

THINGS are not as we would like them to be. there is only one way to deal with it — namely to try & be all right oneself.

EVERYTHING becomes so problematic because of basic faults: from a discontent with myself.

THE HORRORS OF WAR PALE BESIDE THE LOSS OF A MOTHER.

CHILDREN USUALLY DO NOT BLAME THEMSELVES FOR GETTING LOST.

I AM NO LONGER AFRIAD TO SAY ANYTHING.

WE LIVE TRAPPED between the churned-up & examined past & a future that waits for our work.

HOW CAN ONE KNOW ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT PEOPLE?

A FIRST VISIT TO A MADHOUSE IS ALWAYS A SHOCK.

MY DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES LEAVE ME IN PEACE NOW.

PAPA continually emphasizes how much remains unexplained. With the other psychoanalytic writers everything is always so known & fixed.
