UNDERSTANDING IS THE FOUNDATION OF LOVE. THICH NHAT HANH “Fear”
THERE will come a time when the rich own all the media and it will be impossible for the public to maintain an informed opinion. ALBERT EINSTEIN
I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN DESPAIR ABOUT THE WORLD. ENRAGED. I’VE BEEN ENRAGED BY THE WORLD BUT NEVER DESPAIR. I CANNOT AFFORD DESPAIR. YOU CANNOT TELL THE CHILDREN THAT THERE IS NO HOPE. James Baldwin
EVERYTHING FADED INTO MIST.
THE PAST WAS ERASED,
THE ERASURE WAS FORGOTTEN,
THE LIE BECOME THE TRUTH. GEORGE ORWELL
ARTHUR C. CLARKE 1917-2008 –“2001–A Space Odyssey””Imperial Earth”.
“Clarke incarnates the essence of science fiction which is to blend two otherwise opposite activities into a single story — that of the advancement of mankind.”
KUBRICK ON CLARKE: HE HAS the kind of mind which the world can never have enough — an array of imagination, intelligence, knowledge and a quirkish curiosity which often uncovers more than the first three qualities.
ONE OF THE greatest tragedies of mankind is that morality has been hijacked by religion.
THE FUTURE IS NOT TO BE FORECAST BUT CREATED.
IN MY LIFE I have found two things of priceless worth — learning and loving. Nothing else — not fame, not power, not achievement for its own sake — can possibly have the same lasting value. For when your life is over, if you can say ‘I have learned’ and ‘I have loved,’ you will also be able to say ‘I have been happy.’
THE ONLY WAY TO DEFINE YOUR LIMITS IS BY GOING BEYOND THEM.
ANY sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
BEFORE you become too entranced with gorgeous gadgets and mesmerizing video displays, let me remind you that information is not knowledge, knowledge is not wisdom and wisdom is not foresight. Each grows out of the other and we need them all.
THE DIFFERENCE between machines and human beings is that human beings can be reproduced by unskilled labour.
THE ONLY REAL PROBLEM IN LIFE IS WHAT TO DO NEXT.
I DON’T BELIEVE IN ASTROLOGY — I’M A SAGITTARIUS & WE’RE SKEPTICAL.
JUDGE me by my deeds, though they are few, rathe than my words, though they are many.
WE over estimate technology in the short term and underestimate technology in the long term.
THE one fact about the future of which we can be certain is that it will be utterly fantastic.
PHILIP K. DICK 1912-1982—-“The Man in the High Castle”. “Valis” “Ubik”.
TODAY WE LIVE in a society in which spurious realities are manufactured by the media, by governments, by big corporations, by religious groups, political groups . . . So I ask in my writing ‘What is Real?’ Because unceasingly we are bombarded with pseudo-realities manufactured by very sophisticated people using very sophisticated electronic mechanisms. I do not distrust their motives; I distrust they power. they have a lot of it. And it is an astonishing power: that of creating whole universes, universes of the mind. I ought to know. I do the same thing.
THE BASIC TOOL for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words.
REALITY is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.
REALITY IS JUST A POINT OF VIEW.
EVERYTHING IN LIFE IS JUST FOR A WHILE.
IN A SOCIETY OF CRIMINALS THE INNOCENT MAN GOES TO JAIL.
THERE is no route out of the maze. The maze shifts as you move through it, because it is alive.
IT IS sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane.
REALITY DENIED COMES BACK TO HAUNT.
I AM A READER. I AM A WRITER. People assume I do these things to escape. You couldn’t be more right. I’m escaping a world I don’t like. A world I have no control in. in this world I am nothing. I am a color, a height, a weight, a number. But in the world of books and writing, I am amazing. I am powerful. I am different. People are better. Worlds are endless. Change is possible. Life is manageable.
