TODAY BIRTHDAYS LOUIS ARMSTRONG, BARACK OBAMA + Aldous Huxley

“The greater part of the population is not very intelligent, dreads responsibility, and desires nothing better than to be told what to do. Provided the rulers do not interfere with its material comforts and its cherished beliefs, it is perfectly happy to let itself be ruled.”
           ALDOUS HUXLEY—-“BRAVE NEW WORLD”

LOUIS ARMSTRONG 1901=1970

                               WHAT WE PLAY IS LIFE.

IF YOU HAVE TO ASK WHAT JAZZ IS, YOU’LL NEVER KNOW.

MY WHOLE LIFE, MY WHOLE SOUL, MY WHOLE SPIRIT IS TO BLOW THAT HORN.

EACH MAN HAS HIS OWN MUSIC BUBBLING UP INSIDE HIM.

I GOT A SIMPLE RULE ABOUT EVERYBODY. If you don’t treat me right — shame on you.

AND I THINK TO MYSELF WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD. Oh, yeah.

JAZZ IS PLAYED FROM THE HEART. You can even live by it. Always love it.

THE BEST I CAN DO IS STAY HAPPY.

IT REALLY PUZZLES ME to see marijuana connected with narcotics dope and all that stuff. It is a thousand times better than whiskey. It is an assistant and a friend.

I DON’T LET MY MOUTH SAY NOTHIN’ my head can’t stand.

BARACK OBAMA 1961—PRESIDENT

KEEP EXPLORING. KEEP DREAMING. KEEP ASKING WHY. Don’t settle for what you already know. Never stop believing in the power of your ideas, your imagination, your hard work to change the world.

CHANGE IS NEVER EASY, BUT ALWAYS POSSIBLE.

DON’T BE AFRAID to ask questions. don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I do that every day. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength. it shows you have the courage to admit when you don’t know something and to learn something new.

GREATNESS IS NEVER FREE; IT MUST BE EARNED.

FIGHTING FOR WHAT YOU TINK IS RIGHT IS ALWAYS WORTH IT.

THE BEST WAY NOT TO FEEL HOPELESS is to get up and do something. don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.

OUR DESTINY IS NOT WRITTEN FOR US, BUT BY US.

HOPE IS NOT BLIND OPTIMISM. IT’S not ignoring the enormity of the task ahead or the roadblocks that stand in our path. it’s not sitting on the sidelines or shirking from a fight. Hope is that thing inside us that insists, despite all evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us if we have the courage to reach for it, and to work for it, and to fight for it. Hope is the belief that destiny will not be written for us, but by us, by the men and women who are not content to settle for the world as it is, who have the courage to remake the world as it should be.

great words by a great man with vision.
