ALL WAR is a symptom of man’s failure as a thinking animal.
                                   JOHN STEINBECK

BE KINDER TO YOURSELF. AND THEN LET YOUR KINDNESS FLOOD THE WORLD.                    PEMA CHODRON

THE ONLY WAY to be truly happy is to make others happy.
                                 WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS

THE ENGLISH ‘Deep South’ has always been the West Indies and Africa.Until recently they managed to keep it out of the country. The problem is more complicated in England than in America. In America it’s a visible thing. In England, it’s more of a mental violence.

I’M ALWAYS INTERESTED IN CHARACTERS. I’M interested in people that are trapped, black, white, whatever race: that is what attracts me to the dramatic film, the trap that we are all in and how we try to get out of it, how we survive and the effects off that trap.
HORACE OVE New York Times obit. Oct.3. 2023

CHILDREN respond with fascination. I always find children much more sophisticated than people suppose. My feeling is that children are just as capable of understanding these ranges of emotions as adults.

THE PRACTICE OF tai chi is about discovering yourself. ART IS ABOUT THE SAME THING — FIND out about yourself. How do you produce something that is satisfying? How do you state something in the simplest manner for the maximum effect?
                                 ED YOUNG 1931-2023  newyorktimes obit.

DADA IS THE ABOLITION OF ALL LOGIC. W e must sweep everything away and sweep clean.     TRISTAN TZARA

NO MAN OR WOMAN can be strong, gentle, pure and good, without the world being better for it and without someone being helped and comforted by the very existence of that goodness. Philip Brooks

ONE MUST NEVER COMPARE ONESELF TO OTHERS.  RUMI

WHEN THE SOLUTION IS SIMPLE, GOD IS ANSWERING. EINSTEIN

ANNE SEXTON  1928-Oct.4, 1974.  “Live or Die”. “Love Poems”.

PUT YOUR EAR DOWN CLOSE TO YOUR SOUL & LISTEN HARD.

I AM A COLLECTION OF DISMANTLED ALMOSTS.

I AM ALONE here in my own mind. There is no map and there is no road. It is one of a kind just as yours is.

SOMETIMES THE SOUL takes pictures of things it has wished for, but never seen.

WATCH OUT FOR INTELLECT, because it knows so much it knows nothing and leaves you hanging upside down, mouthing knowledge as your heart fails out of your mouth.

Be careful of words . . . they can be both daisies & bruises.

MEANWHILE IN MY HEAD, I’M UNDERGOING OPEN-HEART SURGERY.

I AM CRAZY AS HELL, but I know it. and knowing it is a kind of sanity that makes the sickness worse.

IAM NOT AT HOME IN MYSELF. I AM MY OWN STRANGER.

THE JOY THAT ISN’T SHARED DIES YOUNG.

THE TONGUE, the Chinese say, is like a sharp knife: it kills without drawing blood.

THOSE MOMENTS before a poem comes, when the heightened awareness comes over you and you realize a poem is buried there somewhere, you prepare yourself. I run around, you know, kind of skipping around the house, marvelous elation. it’s as though I could fly.

ROBERT WILSON 1941—“Landscape images & Post Dramatic theater” “Wilson focuses on detail like precise gestures, movements, shapes of objects, time, lighting and theater aesthetics in order to heighten the audiences viewing experience.” wikipedia

                               THE MIND IS A MUSCLE.

THE FIRST THING you must know as an actor or director is the space you will inhabit. See the architecture; imagine where things can happen in space.

LIGHT IS ARCHITECTURE. IT IS SCULPTURAL.

MY WORK has always dealt with a kind of space that allows one to daydream.

IF WE LOSE CULTURE, WE LOSE OUR MEMORY.

IN EUROPE, unlike the states, they have a cultural policy.

RUTHERFORD B. HAYES 1822-1893  19th U.S. President.

EVERY EXPERT WAS ONCE A BEGINNER.

IT IS A GOVERNMENT of the people by the people for the people — no longer it is the government of corporations by corporations for corporations.

THE REAL DIFFICULTY is with the vast wealth & power in the hands of the few and the unscrupulous who represent or control capital.

TO VOTE is like the payment of a debt, a duty never to be neglected, if its performance is possible.

CONSCIENCE IS THE AUTHENTIC VOICE OF GOD TO YOU.

FREE GOVERNMENT cannot long endure if property is largely in a few hands, and large masses of people are unable to earn homes,
education, and a support in old age.

ALVIN TOFFLER 1928-2016.   “FUTRUE SHOCK”

PARENTHOOD REMAINS THE GREATEST SINGLE PRESERVE OF THE AMATEUR.

IT IS BETTER to err on the side of daring than the side of caution.

Future shock is the shattering stress and disorientation that we induce in individuals by subjecting them to too much change in too short a time.

ONE OF THE definitions of sanity is the ability to tell real from unreal. soon we’ll need a new definition.

KNOWLEDGE IS THE MOST DEMOCRATIC SOURCE OF POWER.

THE LAW OF RASPBERRY JAM: THE WIDER ANY CULTURE IS SPREAD, THE THINNER IT GETS.

CHANGE IS NOT MERELY NECESSARY TO LIFE — IT IS LIFE.

NOBODY KNOWS the future with certainty. We can, however, identify ongoing patterns of change.

RUTHERFORD HAYES: ABOLISH PLUTOCRACY if you would abolish poverty. As millionaires increase, pauperism grows. the more millionaires, the more paupers.

EVERY AGE HAS ITS TEMPTATIONS, its weaknesses, its dangers. ours is in the line of the snobbish and the sordid.

NOTHING brings out the lower traits of human nature like office-seeking. Men of good character and impulses are betrayed by it into all sorts of meaness.

I WOULD HONOR THE MAN WHO GIVES TO HIS COUNTRY A GOOD NEWSPAPER.
