BIRTHDAYS JUNE 28

                              JUNE 28 BIRTHDAYS

GILDA RADNER 1946-1989 “The Woman In Red” “Gilda, Live”
One of the original “Not Ready for prime time players”

HUMOR IS JUST TRUTH, ONLY FASTER.

LIFE is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next.

I’VE LEARNED what I can control is whether I am going to live a day in fear and depression and panic, or whether I am going to attack the day and make it as good a day, as wonderful a day, as I can.

THERE ARE THOSE who open their hearts to others . . . who never think twice about giving of themselves. They are the wonderful warmhearted people who make all the difference in our lives.

I WANTED A PERFECT ENDING. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle and end.

I THINK DOGS are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me that are the role model for being alive.

THERE IS NO REAL SECURITY EXCEPT FOR WHATEVER YOU BUILD INSIDE YOURSELF.

MOTHERHOOD is the biggest gamble in the world. It is the glorious life force. It’s huge and scary–it’s an act of infinite optimism.

WHILE WE HAVE THE GIFT OF LIFE, it seems to me the only tragedy is to allow part of us to die — whether it is our spirit, our creativity or our glorious uniqueness.

CANCER is probably the most unfunny thing in the world, but I’m a comedian, and even cancer couldn’t stop me from seeing the humor in what I went through.

I’D MUCH RATHER BE A WOMAN than a man. Women can cry, they can wear cute clothes, and they’re the first to be rescued off sinking ships.

THE GOAL IS TO LIVE A FULL, productive life even with all that ambiguity. No matter what happens, whether the cancer never flares up again or whether you die, the important thing is that the days that you have had you will have lived.

I CAN ALWAYS BE DISTRACTED BY LOVE, but eventually I get horny for creativity.

MY LIFE HAD MADE ME FUNNY, and cancer wasn’t going to change that.

IT’S SUCH AN ACT OF OPTIMISM to get through a day and enjoy it and laugh and do all that without thinking about death. What spirit human beings have!

YOU FEEL COMPLETELY IN CONTROL when you hear a wave of laughter coming back at you that you have caused.

I WOULD RATHER BE FUNNY THAN GORGEOUS, absolutely. Because it’s too hard to be gorgeous, you know. I could make a stab at gorgeous as long as I had something funny to say to get out of it.

I WOULD SAY THAT LUCY, ‘I LOVE LUCY,’ SHE WAS MY IDOL.

COMEDY IS VERY CONTROLLING — YOU ARE MAKING PEOPLE LAUGH.

IT IS SO HARD FOR US LITTLE HUMAN BEINGS to accept this deal that we get. It’s really crazy, isn’t it? We get to live, then we have to die. . . . What spirit human beings have! It is a pretty cheesy deal — all the pleasures of life, and then death.

JEAN-JACQUES ROUSSEAU  1712-1778 “The Social Contract”

THERE ARE always four sides to a story: your side, their side, the truth and what really happened.

PEOPLE in their natural state are basically good. but this natural innocence, however, is corrupted by the evils of society.

FREEDOM IS THE POWER TO CHOOSE OUR OWN CHAINS.

I PREFER LIBERTY WITH DANGER THAN PEACE WITH SLAVERY.

THOSE PEOPLE who treat politics and morality separately will never understand either of them.

THE MONEY you have gives you freedom; the money you pursue enslaves you.

WHAT WISDOM CAN YOU FIND THAT IS GREATER THAN KINDNESS?

THE FALSIFICATION OF HISTORY has done more to impede human development than any one thing known to mankind.

PEOPLE who know little are usually great talkers, while men who know much say little.

            SUPREME HAPPINESS CONSISTS IN SELF-CONTENT.

BY DOING GOOD WE BECOME GOOD.

                         INNOCENCE IS AFRAID OF NOTHING.

THE WORLD OF REALITY has its limits; the world of imagination is boundless.

CIVILIZATION is a hopeless race to discover remedies for the evils it produces.

MAN IS BORN FREE AND EVERYWHERE HE IS IN CHAINS.

NO ONE IS HAPPY UNLESS HE RESPECTS HIMSELF.

THE GREATEST BRAGGARTS ARE USUALLY THE BIGGEST COWARDS.

VIRTUE is a state of war, and to live in it we have always to combat with ourselves.

FREE PEOPLE, REMEMBER THIS MAXIM: we may acquire liberty, but it is never recovered if it is once lost.

THE BIGGER A STATE BECOMES THE MORE LIBERTY DIMINISHES.

SOCRATES DIES WITH HONOR, surrounded by his disciples listening to the most tender words — the easiest death that one could wish to die. Jesus dies in pain, dishonor, mockery, the object of universal cursing — the most horrible death that one could fear. At the receipt of the cup of poison, Socrates blesses him who could not give it to him without tears; Jesus, while suffering the sharpest pains, prays for his most bitter enemies. If Socrates lived and dies like a philosopher, Jesus lived and died like a god.

TO BE SANE IN A WORLD OF MADMEN IS IN ITSELF MADNESS.

GIRLS MUST BE THWARTED EARLY IN LIFE.

THE ONLY MORAL LESSON which is suited for a child — the most important lesson for every time of life — is this: ‘Never hurt anybody.’

             REASON DECEIVES US; CONSCIENCE, NEVER.

IF THERE WASN’T A GOD we would have to invent one to keep people sane.

DO NOT JUDGE, AND YOU WILL NEVER BE MISTAKEN.

ALL OF MY MISFORTUNES come from having thought too well of my fellows.

SOCIAL MAN LIVES CONSTANTLY OUTSIDE HIMSELF.

TRUTH is an homage that the good man pays to his own dignity.

ALL KINDS OF FRANKNESS and honesty are terrible crimes in the eyes of society.

THE ONE THING WE DO NOT KNOW IS THE LIMIT OF THE KNOWABLE.

I WOULD RATHER BE A MAN OF PARADOXES THAN A MAN OF PREJUDICES.

THE MIND grows narrow in proportion as the soul grows corrupt.

FALSEHOOD  has an infinity of combinations, but truth has only one mode of being.

                                    HAPPY SUMMER TO ALL
