CASS ELLIOT, WILLIAM GOLDING–BIRTHDAYS–SEPT. 19, 2023 PLUS ALBERT EINSTEIN,

FORGIVENESS is an act of choice. It is not about denying, condoning or excusing hurtful actions. Rather, it is the letting go of resentment or revenge, even when they seem warranted, and offering instead mercy and love. By so doing we release the past and let go of negative thoughts and feelings. We become unstuck and can move on in our lives. energy that was tied up within us becomes available for positive, creative endeavors. Relationships are healed and we, too, are healed.                   SWAMI RAMANANDA

THE INTUITIVE MIND IS a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift. We will not solve the problems of the world from the same level of thinking we were at when we created them. More than anything else, this new century demands new thinking: We must change our materially based analyses of the world around us to include broader, more multidimensional perspectives.
                                            ALBERT EINSTEIN

WILLIAM GOLDING 1911-93 “Lord of the Flies” “Darkness Visible”

I THINK WOMEN are foolish to pretend they are equal to men, they are far superior and always have been.

WE HAVE A DISHARMONY in our natures. We cannot Iive together without injuring each other.

WHAT ARE WE? HUMANS? OR ANIMALS? OR SAVAGES?

HOWEVER YOU DISGUISE NOVELS, THEY ARE ALWAYS BIOGRAPHIES.

MAN PRODUCES EVIL AS A BEE PRODUCES HONEY.

THE THING IS — FEAR CAN’T HURT YOU ANY MORE THAN A DREAM.

WE’RE ALL MAD, the whole damned race. We’re wrapped in illusions, delusions, confusions about the penetrability of partitions, we’re all mad and in solitary confinement.

I BELIEVE MAN SUFFERS FROM AN APPALLING IGNORANCE OF HIS OWN NATURE. I produce my own view in the belief that it may be something like the truth.

NO HUMAN endeavor can ever be wholly good . . . it must always have a cost.

I AM by nature an optimist and by intellectual conviction a pessimist.

ART is partly communication, but only partly. the rest is discovery.

                MAYBE THERE IS A BEAST . . . MAYBE IT’S ONLY US.

MY YESTERDAYS walk with me. They keep step, they are gray faces that peer over my shoulder.

AT THE MOMENT OF VISION, THE EYES SEE NOTHING.

HOW CAN YOU EXPECT to be rescued if you don’t put first things first and act proper?

THE GREATEST IDEAS ARE THE SIMPLEST.

WHAT A MAN DOES DEFILES HIM, NOT WHAT IS DONE BY OTHERS.

I’LL TELL YOU WHAT MAN IS. HE IS A FREAK, an ejected fetus robbed of his natural development, thrown out into the world with a naked covering of parchment, with too little room for his teeth and a soft bulging skull like a bubble. But nature stirs a pudding there.

CHILDHOOD IS A DISEASE — A SICKNESS YOU GROW OUT OF.

BUT FORGIVENESS MUST NOT ONLY BE GIVEN BUT RECEIVED ALSO.

WHICH IS BETTER — TO HAVE LAWS AND AGREE, OR TO HUNT AND KILL?

I AM NOT A THEOLOGIAN OR A PHILOSOPHER.
                    I AM A STORY TELLER.

LIFE should serve up its feast of experience in a series of courses.

IT WASN’T UNTIL I WAS 37 that I grasped the great truth that you’ve got to write your own books and nobody else’s, and then everything followed from there.

I HOPE MY BOOKS MAKE A STATEMENT ABOUT THE HUMAN CONDITION.

HEAVEN LIES AROUND US IN OUR INFANCY.

MARX, DARWIN AND FREUD are the three most crashing bores of the Western World. Simplistic popularization of their ideas has thrust our world into a mental straitjacket from which we can only escape by the most anarchic violence.

I WOULDN’T HAVE THOUGHT that the techniques of storytelling, which is what the novel is after all, can vary much because there are two things involved. There’s a story and there’s a listener, who attention you have to keep. Now the only way in which you can keep a reader’s attention to a story is in his wanting to know what is going to happen next. This puts a fairly close restriction on the method you must use.

CASS ELLIOT 1941-1974.     “THE MAMAS AND THE PAPAS”.

                                HONESTY IS ALL YOU NEED.

YOU’VE GOT TO MAKE your own kind of music, sing your own special song, make you own kind of music, even if nobody else sings along.

IF YOU really think you’re right, you should tell it.

IF YOU TRULY DIG WHAT YOU ARE DOING, if you lay it out that way, nobody can not respond. that’s what rock and roll is; it’s relentless.

LEADERSHIP is helping yourself and other people achieve goals. The ability to direct your life to get the results you want is leadership.

MY ROLE IN THE MAMAS & PAPAS WAS BASICALLY JUST TO SING.

                                      BRIGHTEN UP YOUR WAY!
