JOHN CLEESE, KLAS PONTUS ARNOLDSON–BIRTHDAYS–OCT. 27, 2023–PLUS–JAMES HILLMAN

PSYCHOLOGY is ultimately mythology, the study of the stories of the soul.

TELL ME WHAT YOU YEARN FOR and I shall tell you who you are. We are what we reach for, the idealized image that drives our wandering.

THE GIFT OF AN IMAGE is that it provides a place to watch your soul.
                                      JAMES HILLMAN

JOHN CLEESE  1939—“FAULTY TOWERS”  “MONTY PYTHON”.
NOTHING will stop you being creative more effectively as the fear of making a mistake.

CREATIVITY is not the possession of some talent. It’s about the willingness to play.

LIFE IS A TERMINAL DISEASE & IT IS SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED.

THE SAD THING about true stupidity is that you can do absolutely nothing.

CREATIVITY IS NOT A TALENT. IT IS A WAY OF OPERATING.

IF you want to know who your friends are have a major failure.

DON’T let anyone tell you what you ought to like.

NO HOPE for the planet at all. But I will be gone before the planet is gone, so it’s your problem.

WHEN YOU GET TO MY AGE, you realize that the world is a madhouse and that most people are operating in fantasy anyway. So once you realize that, it doesn’t bother you much.

I THINK the problem WITH PEOPLE is that they are so stupid that they have no idea how stupid they are.

HE WHO LAUGHS MOST LEARNS BEST.

THIS IS THE EXTRAORDINARY THING about creativity: if just you keep your mind resting against the subject in a friendly way, sooner or later you will get a reward from your subconscious.

THE WORLD IS INSANE. With tiny spots of sanity, here and there. . . Not the other way around!

WE ALL OPERATE in two contrasting modes, which might be called open and closed. The open mode is more relaxed, more receptive, more exploratory, more democratic, more playful and more humorous. The closed mode is the tighter, more rigid, more hierarchical, more tunnel-visioned. Most people, unfortunately spend most of their time in the closed mode.

KLAS PONTUS ARNOLDSON 1844-1916.  NOBEL PEACE PRIZE.

WITHOUT HOPE AND CONFIDENCE in a cause, there is no action. Ignorance may be enlightened, superstition wiped out; intolerance may become tolerant, and hate be changed into love; ideas may be quickened, intelligence widened and men’s hearts may be ennobled; but from pessimism which can see nothing but gloomy visions nothing is to be expected.

WITHOUT PEACE there is nothing truly human. Peace is harmony. And harmony is the highest ideal of life.

MAN’S NATURE is fundamentally good or perhaps it is neither good nor evil. In any case, man is something to work on. We must hold fast to this fact — man is something to work on.

WITHOUT PEACE, there is no freedom, individual or national. War and hostilities are a form of slavery.

OWEN D. YOUNG 1874-1962  BUSINESSMAN ON COVER TIME MAG.
THE MAN who can put himself in the place of other men, who can understand the workings of their minds, need never worry about what the future has in store for him.

IT IS NOT THE CROOK in modern business that we fear, but the honest man who doesn’t know what he is doing.

IT TAKES VISION and courage to create — it takes faith and courage to prove.

MARKETS AS WELL AS MOBS respond to human emotions; markets as well as mobs can be inflamed to their own destruction.

WHEN BOASTING ENDS, THERE DIGNITY BEGINS.
